State Sponsored Torture & The Soul of America
May 18

The war on terror has made us painfully aware that American interrogators have employed methods of torture to extract information from individuals suspected of plotting future horrific crimes. Is it morally acceptable to use torture to protect the nation? Can ‘enhanced interrogation methods’ be in accord with the Geneva Conventions and other international human rights treaties that America has ratified? Grace Church parishioner Andrew Blane, long involved in human rights, is among those who believe that the soul of America is at stake in the answer we give to these questions, and he will lead us in a timely discussion of the issue.

May 25-No class due to Memorial Day Weekend

Preparing for the Movies: Discussion of Prince Caspian
May 4

Later this spring Hollywood is following up the very successful blockbuster movie, Narnia, with Prince Caspian, the second installment in CS Lewis’ tales of extraordinary excursions into magical lands and enchanted happenings. The Chronicles of Narnia are rich with Christian themes and always prove fruitful springboards for theological reflection and discussion. Parishioner Cathy DePasquale and the Rev. Linda Bartholomew will help prepare us to see the film. Note: Prince Caspian is the second of the Chronicles of Narnia. It is a delightful, easy read that will enhance the discussion.

About Adult Education at Grace Church

Who
The Adult Education program is run by a six-person education committee that meets once a month during the program year (September - May).

How you can help
Since the size of our (currently attenuated) education budget depends on the overall financial health of the church, do consider making a pledge to Grace Church as you are able. For pledge cards, contact Bill Nave at the church office: bnave@gracechurchnyc.org. Please specify on your card that you are pledging partly thanks to the education program; your comment will help bolster our case for a bigger budget.
